Congrats to Anna on her adoption of Chloe!!!

"Hi Brittany,
Thank you so much for pairing me up with such a GREAT horse!!! Chloe has been doing very well lately , she is becoming very solid with her canter. I hope to be jumping in the spring. Toby ,Oreo and Chloe have formed a very close bound with one another. They all together lay down in the barn almost every night. Chloe got a new purple halter and a hot pink hay net when she was added on to the Hideaway Hill Farm family. She has made her way into my heart all because of you saying "   I discussed your set up with my team and I really think you should foster Chloe. She's very easy to handle and you could help me train her which would be fun for you and a HUGE help to me. If you think you'd want to do this let me know. I can bring her over ASAP. Think about it and let me know."  It is so funny that she is a thoroughbred and she is so quiet! Chloe is very happy at my barn, I'm just so happy that Chloe doesn't ever need to worry about ending up in a auction ever again. You have to visit her soon, and take her out on trail!
Thanks so much for pairing me with Chloe,
Anna"

Thank you to Johna for giving Starbuck her forever home!

"Starbuck arrived about 3:30 this afternoon.  She was in great shape and settled in quick.  She's eating, drinking and pooping so all looks good.  It took her about an hour to figure out that the gate from the paddock to the pasture was open, she finally got brave and went out.  Once she realized she had a big pasture her tail went up and she went prancing around.  Of course my geldings are being complete fools and she is flirting like a girl.  She seems most taken with my other TB, she whinnies for him if he gets too far away but then squeals and gets rowdy when he is close.  I'll keep them separated for several days till everyone settles in.  Johna"

"Hi Brittany,

Just wanted to let you know that Lady is doing well.  I haven't been able to ride as much as I like due to the weather, but the last time I rode we cantered in both direction on the correct lead!  Having fences around her is definately helping her.  She has gained some weight and is still as sweet as can be.  Can't wait for you to come visit her.  I've attached some pictures for you.

Jeannine "

Hannah was the first rescue of Project Sage!  Many people know how I started the rescue with the help of Christy from AC4H.  Hannah was rescued from New Holland Horse Auction by Project Sage and went to AC4H for rehab and adoption.  Thank you to Christy for helping me get my foot into the rescue world.  Hannah was adopted and re-named "Cindy".  I keep in touch with her adopter and I am thrilled to share the latest pictures of Cindy.

When I adopted Cindy, the cute 15.2H TB mare had come from the New Holland
Auction shy and skinny. Narrowly missing the meat man (Thanks to Project
Sage) she had a capped hock that had caused her foster barn to believe she
wouldn't jump. A capped hock is nothing more then a blemish. After a year
and a half of good groceries (and a lot of tlc,) Cindy is a solid 16HH and
her training is in full swing.
This year I started her over fences, and she is jumping 2'3-2'6
confidently under saddle. She has free jumped 4' with ease. Cindy has a
big stride and a whole lot of stamina. I look forward to a long career
with her as she grows up.
Cindy is a sweet mare with a whole lot of potential thanks to Project Sage!

Congrats to Sharon on her adoption of Ginger!  Sharon rescued her two mini's the same week that Project Sage rescued Ginger.  It was determined that they were at the same broker lot and had probably lived together before being sent there.  They are now all reunited and happily living together at Sharon's barn.  Thank you for giving Ginger a great home!

"Ginger had a great day today!  She loves the other minis, and I am convinced she and Indy are somehow related - they came from the same little herd at the auction, and he immediately started following her everywhere.  He's only about three and they look like two little peas in a pod, so we're all thinking maybe she's his mom.  They had such a great day, playing and eating together and happy as can be.  She warmed up just great to my staff and my family and we're thrilled to have her"

Congrats to Dorothy on her adoption of Cosmo!!!!

"He's doing incredibly well!! We let him out into the big pen alone and he took off running bucking and playing! Bad leg and all that baby is fast! Maybe he fakes that limp for sympathy and more treats? LOL!!! He's great just great and has a huge fan following, he's very loved.

Oh and Nick my hubby who was against my getting a horse.....Now says he's his.

Thanks Brittany"

Sandy was rescued on August 3rd, 2008 from a feed lot in NJ.  Darlene from Hillcrest Stables is keeping Sandy and will let him live out his life in peace.  He is a 24-year-old who has worked hard his whole entire life and was dumped at the auction with many large cutts and was very under weight.  Thank you Darlene for giving him his forever home.  I love watching him walk around Hillcrest like he owns the place!!!

Promise is now a permanent resident at Project Sage Horse Rescue.  She has really made her way into my heart!  She has a calicified hock from an old injury which makes her not cabable of being ridden.

Update on Promise 1/1/2010:

Promise is doing really well.  She is enjoying life in a big field with her two friends.  Promise gets around really well and he leg is doing much better.  She has learned to trust and love which is a huge improvement and now even nickers when I walk into the barn.  She has become an amazing horse and gives me inspiration to keep rescuing horses.

Congrats to Linda in Texas on her adoption of Dolly!!!

clip_image002.jpg

Dolly the Mule Comes to Texas

I have always admired mules, and when I saw beautiful Dolly’s picture, I knew she was the one.  After Brittany succeeded in weaning Dolly and her best friend Cassie from each other and Dolly could be adopted singly, I sent in my application right away.  Once Brittany determined that Dolly and I would be a good match, the next hurdle was to get her from Long Island to west Texas.  Fast forward a month or so.

The first leg of Dolly’s journey took her to New Jersey where she got to stay at a Saddlebred rescue while she waited for the transport driver to pick her and one of the Saddlebreds up.  On she went to two stops in Pennsylvania filling up the 6-horse load.  Finally, everyone headed south.  Two days and some 2000 miles later, Dolly and her traveling companions arrived in the dark of night, road weary and tired.

The next morning the get acquainted process began as I learned to “speak mule.”  Being a practical mule, Dolly decided that approaching for treats was a lot more rewarding than avoiding this new person, and we began to get to know each other.  Now, three months later, Dolly has settled into her new routine and gotten over her culture shock.  (West Texas ain’t like New York, y’all.)

Thank you, Brittany, for trusting me with Dolly.  I surely love her a lot.  She’s got a new mane trim, and we’re working on shedding that winter coat.  I’m looking forward to my adventures with Dolly.
